Dr. Mac Adkins

Dr. Mac Adkins is an accomplished educational leader and technology innovator with over three decades of experience in higher education, distance learning, and instructional design. He has held executive and academic roles including Founder and Chief Academic Officer, CEO of SmarterServices, Dean of Distance Learning at Troy University, and adjunct faculty at multiple universities. Dr. Adkins is a recognized expert in online learning, course design, and competency-based education, serving on advisory boards for the International Distance Education Certification Center (IDECC) and IACET, and presenting extensively at national and international conferences on topics such as virtual proctoring, student readiness, and academic integrity. His academic credentials include an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, a Master of Divinity, and advanced studies at MIT Sloan Executive Education. He is also a seasoned technologist, proficient in web development, multimedia production, and educational software, and has led numerous initiatives integrating technology into curriculum, enrollment management, and faculty training. I have planned, developed, and maintained the following technology-related projects:

(1) Design and maintenance of the enrollment management system at Southern Christian University. This system utilized the mainframe computer, a suite of laptops, and web-based input from the students. I was responsible for the trend analysis and market assessment in the enrollment strategy.

(2) Webmaster for Southern Christian University. I introduced the use of the Internet into the curricular and administrative functions of the University. This involved training of the faculty members in the navigation of the Web as well as production of web-based courses. I designed and maintained the University’s web site including student application and registration components.

(3) Creation and maintenance of the web presence for the Distance Learning Center and College of Education of Troy State University.

(4) Training and assisting several faculty members at both Southern Christian University and Troy State University in the production of web-based courses.

(5) Graphic design of all of the print-based promotional material for Southern Christian University emphasizing the seamless integration of graphics, form, and text. I was responsible for producing documents such as the University Catalog, Student Handbook, quarterly newsletter, and course schedules. In addition to creating these documents for print, I also converted them to be available via the World Wide Web.

(6) Evaluate and recommend all software adopted by Southern Christian University.

(7) Editor and Manager, SCU’s Schedule and News, 1992 to 1998

•Created and maintained SCU’s only publication for student and alumni news.
•Designed and edited every issue of the quarterly, 16-page newsletter..
•Ran all daily operations, including budgeting, and oversaw all publications of the newsletter and other information resources including web-delivery of the publication.

(8) Serve in lead position in the adoption of Blackboard’s web-course production software at Troy State University.

I have written and directed one fifteen-minute promotional video tape as well as six thirty-second television ads. I collaborated with a professional videographer to produce these items
